Text Box: Brian Purdy Epistle to Poe II Pratt daguerreotype, 1849 This daguerreotype is reported to be taken of Poe by William Pratt about 3 weeks before Poe died, in 1849. Poe is said to have argued he was not suitably dressed, however, he was coaxed until he agreed to be photographed. He was 40 years old.
