A cold plunge,
the breath caught in the throat,
the water, icy,
swirls around the legs,
and then the body,
encased in numbing cold.
The shock,
the pain of startled nerves,
and the vivid sensations starkly refresh,
confirming life.
Feet skitter
over rounded pebbles,
the riverbed barely felt
beneath the dark, chill ripples of the flow.
