An old man
Stopped me once
To teach me the meaning of a tear
He said what you see in others
Is the most honest way of looking in the mirror

The judgment that I fear
You are casting upon my ways
Its just something lacking in myself
A reflection I cannot face

A young boy
Asked me once
To stop and play awhile
And on that swing set I was taught
About the power of a smile

It breaks the mirror
Shatters the glass
and the denial

The sighting of my inner smile
In your laugh and your embrace
Is a part of me I care for
An image I can face

An inner voice
Teaches day to day
About the meaning of this life
Laugh as much as you cry
Love the smiles but accept the strife

Someday in my age and wisdom
I will teach
About the meaning of that tear
The one who
se beauty I found
When I stopped hiding from the mirror.
